Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
What is my heart seeking?
When I hear this phrase, I’m immediately reminded of how Kind David wrote in Psalm 51:3, “my sin is ever before me”.
I realize how my heart is often seeking so many things other than God’s heart. This is when I am most thankful for His Amazing Grace.
When we find ourselves in this place we can make some good choices to re-align our hearts with God’s heart. In Psalm 50:10-12, we read, “Create in me a clean heart O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.”
» 1. First, we need to turn to God and ask for His forgiveness. The words “Create in me a clean heart” are very powerful. God is the only one who can do this. It is so amazing that the God of all creation cares about each one of our hearts and is willing to wipe away our sins when we turn to Him.
» 2. Next, we are asking Him to “Renew in us a steadfast spirit”. This is really awesome. We need a steadfast spirit so we can push through and stand strong in all circumstances. A steadfast spirit reminds me of God as the firm foundation. He cannot be moved. That is what we are asking for, the firm foundation of Christ in our hearts.
» 3. Now, we are asking Him to not leave us or take away the Holy Spirit. I believe the most important thing to God is our relationship with Him. We thrive and succeed when we are in His presence and when we move with Him. He empowers and encourages us by giving us the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit continually testifies to our hearts of the greatness of God. The King of all Heaven and Earth wants a relationship with us and wants to empower and encourage us. That is really awesome! What a great testimony we have to a lost world.
» 4. Finally, the passage says, “restore to me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.” The joy of His salvation is excellent. To know that forever we will be with Him is an incredible thought. There is no situation that can come against us because we know our future. The battle is already won and we are on the winning side with God. We are living in the victory of Christ. He fills us with joy and grants us a willing spirit to live everyday to the fullest through Him. Our God is an awesome God!
I hope you are blessed by these thoughts and challenged to be pure in heart and see God in all things. |
